About the event

Robert Allen, founder of Rhythmic Roots Sonic Healing, stands as a distinguished leader, educator,

and facilitator throughout Florida. His passion for music and craftsmanship, honed under the tutelage

djembe builders Pierre Greene and Shorty Palmer, has positioned him as a pivotal figure in promoting

cultural enrichment and personal development through the art of music.

Under Robert's leadership, Rhythmic Roots Sonic Healing has become a beacon of community

engagement, offering unique workshops that empower participants to learn and create. His sessions are

not just about building an instrument, but about weaving the rich tapestry of communal ties through

shared cultural practices.

This year, we are thrilled to announce a special djembe building workshop scheduled for August 31 to

September 1. Participants will have the opportunity to construct their own professional Ivory Coast

djembe, featuring a head diameter of 13.5”-14”. Additionally, each builder will personalize their drum by

selecting their preferred rope and fabric colors. The total cost for each djembe build is $500. We

encourage those interested to secure their spot with a $250 deposit by May 15th, with the

remaining balance due on September 1st. The workshop will be held at The Luminary in

Apalachicola, 41 Commerce Street.

This workshop is an exceptional chance to engage with the art of djembe building under the guidance of

an experienced and passionate instructor. Join us to create not only a beautiful instrument but also a

lasting connection within our vibrant community.
